Jennifer Curtiss

Artist Bio

Jennifer’s artist journey began in the early 90’s. She was a full time mom then and was wanting to explore a way to express herself. Early instruction was under Lynn Mclain, a meticulous and caring watercolor teacher. At this point, her work was very derivative of her instructors.

A move to the Pacific Northwest brought change to her style and colors. Inspiration was easy to find in the landscape and hues that the seasons cast on the mountains. She visited artist communities on the coastline and saw what the life of an artisan could be. It was there that she started exploring acrylics and stained glass as alternative art mediums.

Jennifer’s palette and themes often have a Mediterranean influence. As a child she lived in southern Spain and remembers the azure coast, white walls and red roofs. She hopes to return there someday and revisit those happy memories.

Returning to Texas, her style continues to change, colors are more vibrant and bolder and she is simplifying her art to be more focused. She believes change is essential in growth and all great artists have undergone several phases before finding their true voice. She hopes to find her true voice soon. In the meantime she will continue to dabble.
