Why I joined Plano Art Association
My husband was actually looking for something to get me involved in my artwork again. I had not pursued art for years while in college because I just did not have the time. I greatly enjoyed the couple of classes I was able to fit into my schedule as I earned my degree in architecture at Texas A&M University, but I could never do art for art’s sake. He went online one Monday afternoon in January of 2001and found the Plano Art Association, which happened to be having a meeting that night. I attended and saw a demonstration by Glen Ayers. I loved it and he got me enthused about art again. I enjoyed the meetings and came home wanting to paint (but it was always too late at night!). I was soon asked to start getting involved in the group and before long, was on the board, then last year’s president. What a whirlwind!
What I do
During the time I began to get involved in the PAA, I started doing murals and artwork for friends, then referrals came, and soon I had started my own business, ALL Art. I now paint murals full time. Well, sometimes full-time, sometimes over-time, and sometimes part-time, but it is my vocation now. I stay quite busy and really enjoy my job.
My other full-time job is my daughter, Kynda Jae. She is our little mascot at our PAA meetings. She lets herself be heard sometimes. Sorry about that! This little girl will grow up engrossed in art. She tries to help me paint, but a wet brush is usually enough for now. We have done prints together as cards for family. She does a great job. I see talent.
I would like to thank the PAA and my husband, Brian, for helping me change my life. I now enjoy my job, have a flexible schedule, and lots of “artsy” friends. It has been a pleasure getting to know everyone in this group. I really feel that artists need a support group and some inspiration every once in a while. That is what the demo meetings are to me – inspiration!
