EARNEST D. BENTON, JR

Why I joined Plano Art Association

I was drawn to the Plano Art Association for the rich, supportive environment offered to its membership. The many programs that involve the artists with the community matched well with my desire to find a venue for public artistic expression. I found the atmosphere to be conducive to learning, improving ones skill and an excellent opportunity to rub elbows with like-minded creative artists.

Biography

Earnest D. Benton, Jr., was born in Chicago, IL. He has been actively involved in artistic pursuits most of his life. He is a self-taught artist who started making sketches with pencils at a very young age. His interest in drawing, sketching, and painting grew tremendously during his elementary and secondary school years. As his talent developed, he put it to use for school plays, art contests and competitions, and generally wherever there was an opportunity for his artistic creativity.

Through the years, Earnest has worked to develop his distinctive artistic style and craft producing several notable pieces, some by special request for private auctions and individuals. He has competed in and won several art competitions and has been selected for several juried shows while gaining a solid reputation as an artist.

In the early “90’s, Earnest moved to the east coast and discovered a new interest in his art. His medium of choice is pastels and his pieces are evocative of the great Picasso in geometry and form yet display a truly unique approach. The colors and mood of each piece give the beholder a sense of wholeness and peace.

Earnest now resides in North Texas with his wife and continues to pursue his artistic endeavors. The paintings of Earnest ‘Ernie’ Benton are enjoyed by many. His art hangs in many fine homes across the United States including Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Texas, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia and in Seoul, Korea.
